What is Acne Scar?

Acne Scars are usually flat, they however become hypertrophic or thickened when there is a disturbance in the balance between the collagen production and degradation.
It has been reported that more than 95% of cases with severe acne or acne vulgaris, are left with moderate to severe pigmented, thickened or pitted scars.

How it can be Treated?

Lasers have a profound effect on the treatment of acne scars at all stages of their life cycle, including prevention. The laser treatment is aimed at merging the scarred skin with the normal skin, on the parameters of depth, thickness, redness, texture and colour.

Low level laser light is effective in early resolution of active acne hence preventing and minimizing the severity of the condition.

For pigmented or reddish fresh acne scars, a vascular laser or specific wavelength of an intense pulsed light (IPL) is used to reduce the redness and normalize the skin.

Deep pitted scars like, ice pick scars, box scars and crater like scars are treated with lasers to either smoothen the edges or shoulders of the scar to merge with the surrounding skin, or to level the skin with the base of the scar. The most effective laser used for deep and shallow scars is the deep fractional CO2 laser called the Ultrapulse Deep FX and Active FX laser device.
